JM

My name is JM.

I write. I read.

This is my objective:

To write soaring stories about humanity that are complex in their simplicity, beautiful for their honesty, and full of life through characters who become alive to the reader and stay with them forever.

What else should you know about me? You should know that I don't like telling people anything about myself.

You should also know that I like ice cream. A lot.

I don't sleep much.

I often forget to eat.

I do all of my first-draft writing with a Waterman and a Moleskine.

My favorite writer is Hemingway, followed closely by Fitzgerald, Steinbeck, and Vonnegut. I have a list of secondary favorites about a mile long, and I won't list them all, but among them are Salinger, Kerouac, McCarthy, Tartt, and Ellis.

I love road trips.

I love being alone around people and watching people and learning.

If you have questions for me, I'm easy to find. You can email me at JMTohline[at]gmail.com.

You can also find me there if you don't have questions. You can find me there if...you know, if you want to talk about writing, or if you want to tell me something, or if you think I suck and should disappear to an uninhabited island.

If you read the sample of The Great Lenore and become something of a fan, please help in any sort of grassroots way you can - you know, email the pages to your friends, or tell people to visit this site, or tweet a link or write a blog about me or ask to interview me or stand on a roof and yell as loudly as you can about how much you enjoyed what you read of The Great Lenore.

Anything else?

Nope.

Happy reading, Dear Reader.
Happy Writing, Dear Writer.
Cheers.
~J
