This Is Why It Does Not Matter What Others Think Of You...

The other day, I came across this exposition by Dave Eggers on the topic of "selling out." He said a truckload of poignant things. But the thing that struck me the most was this quote - which is not even truly a quote, as I am paraphrasing and putting it into my own words:

It doesn't matter to me what people think of me. It's fashion, and I don't like fashion, because fashion does not matter

  1. "Just settle it - 10% of the people you know won't like you - so focus on the 90% who do" Joyce Myers. For me that - that puts it in a good perspective

  2. My favourite quote on the subject is this little piece of wisdom from Michael J Fox.

"It does not matter what other people think of you because what other people think is none of your business"

  3. "Diane" (aka, Mom) - That's a great way to look at it. No one will ever be universally liked or approved of. So focus instead on the people who do think good things about you.

    Bells - This. Is. Awesome.

  4. Sweet having your mom chime in. And she's right.

As for me, I learned a long time ago you can't please everyone. If you try, somewhere along the line you're going to lose precious pieces of yourself. I once made a broad sweep statement to people I knew: You can love me or you can hate me - I'll meet you somewhere in the middle.

It's impertinent to remember we began writing for ourselves first and foremost. Never forget that one lone reason. (Hugs)Indigo
