Tell Your Dad I'm Sure Glad He Stopped Doing Drugs

Yeah. I will go ahead and not comment or opinionize here at all. I will simply give you three background sentences, and then I will copy and paste.

Three background sentences:
This is a copy-and-paste of a comment on Joe Hill's blog earlier today - for those of you who don't know (pertinent information →), Joe Hill is Stephen King's son. In the blog entry, Hill listed some songs from the playlist he's been enjoying while writing his newest novel. At the end of the post, Hill said this: In the name of the father, the son, and Keith Richards, go forth and shake it.

This was one woman's response:
Keith Richards the equivalent of a holy ghost? (Cringe) Sorry. I don’t like Keith Richards, I don’t care HOW good he was. I LIKE the Rolling Stones, I just don’t care for Keith Richards. He reminds me of all the patients I’m constantly losing to heroin ODs.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I’m not blaming him for the deaths of all those young-than-18’s. I just know he had a huge heroin habit. That’s the only connection to them and Richards.

But one good thing I can say: I’m glad Stephen King got sober. Before he did, this kid was telling me he (the kid) is cool for taking drugs.

“Why are you cool?” I asked. “Because you’re closer to the morgue, in ER instead of at home, than you used to be?”

“No,” he said. “B/c Stephen King does and he’s more successful than you. So there.”

“Well, how can I argue w/ someone who has the snappy ‘So there’ response?” I said.

If you remember to, you can tell your dad I’m really glad he stopped taking drugs. It cut down on my having to deal w/ idiots like that kid, who’s damn lucky he’s still alive.

He went into respiratory arrest, followed by cardiac v-fib (clinical death) right after he said that. It happened faster than anything I’ve seen so far.

Most people find my serious attitude toward street drugs boring, even annoying.

I wish those people would be the ones trying to save all the young people I’ve lost to the addiction.

Well. Okay.
